Martín Berasategui

Born in San Sebastian, he is one of the most renowned chefs in world gastronomy. He began his career at the age of 13 at Bodegón Alejandro, the family restaurant, where he earned his first Michelin star. Between the ages of 15 and 27, he trained in France with leading chefs such as Didier Oudill and Alain Ducasse. In 1993, he opened his eponymous restaurant in Lasarte-Oria, which in less than a decade achieved three Michelin stars. He currently has 11 Michelin stars spread across several restaurants in Spain, including Lasarte and Oria, Barcelona, M.B. in Tenerife, Ola in Bilbao and Etxeko in Ibiza. He has received numerous awards, such as the Golden Drum of San Sebastian (2005), the Doctorate Honoris Causa from the François Rabelais University of Tours (2013) and the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts from the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sport (2019). He has also published more than twenty books and his mythical expression “garrote” has been incorporated into the Historical dictionary from RAE (the Royal Academy of the Spanish language). He has been awarded the Chef Mentor prize by the Michelin Guide Spain & Portugal 2022.
