Mario Calabresi

Milan, Italy. Prominent Italian writer and journalist. He has been editor-in-chief of the newspapers La Stampa (2009-2015) and La Repubblica (2016-2019). He studied Law and History at the State University of Milan and later trained as a journalist at the Carlo de Martino Institute. He is the author of several publications, including La fortuna non esiste (2009), Cosa tiene accese le stelle (2011), Non temete per noi, la nostra vita sarà meravigliosa (2014), La mattina dopo (2019), Una volta sola (2022), and A occhi aperti (2023). In 2007, he published Spingendo la notte più in là (Out of the Night), translated into Spanish in 2023, a literary phenomenon in his country in which the author investigates the events surrounding the murder of his father, Luigi Calabresi, during the so-called “Years of Lead” in Italy.

He holds a PhD in Contemporary History from the University of the Basque Country (EHU) and is Head of Research at the Memorial Center for Victims of Terrorism. He is the author of works such as Terrorism in Spain: From ETA to Daesh and Where Books Are Burned. He has advised on audiovisual projects such as The Invisible Line and The Child. He curated the award-winning exhibition Rolando 2:15-2:45: 50 Years Since ETA’s First Massacre. He is co-host of the Sierra Delta podcast and a regular contributor to El Correo and La Aventura de la Historia.
